Bob Balcomb

BALCOMB, Robert Harry “Bob” of Port Dover, Ontario and Little River, South Carolina suddenly following a brief battle with cancer.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our Husband, Father and Grandfather on Thursday, March 19, 2026 at the age of 75. Much loved husband and life partner of Cathy (nee Mayberry) for 54 years, father of Gene and his wife Merissa, and Stacey and her husband Richard Smith, and grandfather of Gerrit Balcomb and Sarah Opersko. Also survived by his brother Jack of Port Dover, brothers-in-law Paul Mayberry of Calgary AB, Robert Christoph and Leonard Wilson of Tillsonburg ON as well as several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents Harry & Lillian Balcomb, and sisters Barbara Christoph and Joan Wilson.

Bob worked in construction during the building of the Ontario Hydro and Imperial Oil plants before landing in his final career of 33 years for Caswell Dairy, Beatrice Foods, and finally as Chief Engineer with Unilever Canada (Good Humor/Breyers) before retiring in 2014 to enjoy life. Many memories were made throughout his life, like playing golf at Stark’s Golf Course in Port Rowan, spending time every year at Vistana Resort in Florida and the Poconos in Pennsylvania, as well as travelling to many favourite spots such as Niagara Falls, Disneyworld, SeaWorld, Cuba, San Francisco, Alcatraz, New Orleans, St. Louis and the Arch, Las Vegas, St. Andrews by the Sea, and Boston to name a few, and watching some great baseball both major and minor leagues. He came home with souvenirs of all of it…magnets, coins, shirts, baseballs, bats, bobbleheads, and mini hats from every ball team, once filled with ice cream. After retirement, he and Cathy spent the first few winters in Florida until finally settling on their second home in Little River, South Carolina where they spent their last 5 winters living their best life.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Thompson Waters Funeral Home, 102 First Ave. Port Dover, ON. (519)583-1530. Cremation has taken place and at Bob’s request there will be no funeral services. Anyone wishing to make a donation in his memory is asked to consider the Canadian Cancer Society. Condolences and/or donations can be made at www.thompsonwatersfuneralhome.ca.
