Obituary of Sherel Rose O'Neill
O'NEILL, Sherel Rose (nee Murphy)
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Sherel Rose O'Neill (nee Murphy) at Norfolk General Hospital on Monday, April 14, 2025, in her 78th year, surrounded by her loving family. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Rawleigh. Sherel will be dearly missed by her loving partner, Don Wight. Don and Sherel spent many afternoons driving around Norfolk in his convertible. He was a doting partner, bringing her coffee and breakfast in bed, he treated her like a queen.
Cherished mother and mother-in-law of Vicki Monroe (Ted Brinker) of Walsh, and Leslie Monroe (Troy Carter) of St. Marys. Sherel's favorite color was blue, and she quickly became affectionately known as "Blue Grandma." Sherel was the loving grandmother of Benjamin, Rachel (Jake), Makayla (Nick), and Madeline (Ben), and the proud great-grandmother of Kaden. Her grandchildren were the light of her life.
Sherel was the middle child of seven siblings. She was a beloved sister to Sandra, Ross, Doug, George, Shelly, and her brother Ralph, who sadly passed earlier on the same day.
Sherel was predeceased by her parents, Roy and Madge Murphy, and her brother Ralph.
Sherel had a passion for gardening and could often be found tending to her yard, where she spent countless hours cultivating beauty. She also loved to travel, especially with her daughters and grandchildren, making lasting memories. Just two weeks ago, they returned from a memorable trip to Mexico. Sherel was a devoted cat lover, and her beloved feline companions will miss her greatly.
Sherel's career was rooted in the restaurant industry, beginning at a young age at Murphy's Booth, owned by her parents. She later went on to co-own The Galley restaurant with her ex-husband Doug Monroe. Sherel also co-owned a sub shop, Sub-Conscious, with her late husband Rawleigh. Throughout her years in the business, she worked at numerous local restaurants, forming many friendships along the way.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Thompson Waters Funeral Home (519-583-1530). A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, May 24, from 1-3 pm at the Pine Valley Golf Club, located at 1148 Highway 24 East, Vittoria. All are welcome to attend and share a memory of Sherel. In honor of her love for blue, family and friends are invited to wear blue to the visitation, if they wish.
