Celebration Of Life
Words of remembrance
Obituary of Mike Saunders
Mike Saunders passed away on April 20, 2026 at Norfolk General Hospital after a long battle with cancer, leaving behind the love of his life, Debbie, who meant everything to him. After recently enduring the profound and sudden loss of his daughter, Haley, there is comfort in knowing they are now reunited, together again and watching over those they loved so deeply.
Cherished father to his son Michael (Connor) and daughter Meaghan (Josh) MacDonald. He was a proud and devoted grandfather to Rowan, Peyton, and Hunter, who adored their “Papa Cheese.” Mike will be deeply missed by his sister Michelle, sister-in-law Virgina, niece Alexis, and nephew Lee, as well as many cousins and cherished friends. Predeceased by his parents, Bill and Dorothy, and his loving brother Jim, Mike carried his family close to his heart throughout his life.
Known to many as “Sod” or “Wolf,” Mike was a familiar and friendly face to all who crossed his path. When he wasn’t enjoying time at his cottage in Gogama hunting and fishing, you could find him starting his mornings at the Port Dover pier. He was an avid sports fan who loved both playing and watching hockey and baseball, and he always enjoyed a good round of golf with friends. Mike had a deep love for animals, especially his beloved pup, Marley.
Whether you knew him as Dad, Mike, Sod, Wolf, or Papa Cheese, he will be deeply missed and forever cherished in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
Mike’s family would like to extend their deepest thanks to the friends and community members who have supported them during these difficult times. They are especially grateful to Kathy Greenall and Steve Mummery for their steadfast support during the weeks and months leading up to Mike’s passing.
As per Mike’s wishes cremation has taken place. Arrangements have been entrusted to Thompson Waters Funeral Home 102 First Ave., Port Dover (519) 583-1530. The family invites you to join them for a Celebration of Mike’s life on Monday April 27, 2026 from 1:00pm to 3:30pm at the Royal Canadian Legion, 212 Market Street E., Port Dover. Words of remembrance at 1:30. For those wishing, donations can be made to Canadian Cancer Society and Alzheimer Society.
