Mary Valentich posted a condolence

I write with great sadness and condolences to Mary's family members and the friends whose posts reveal a great loss. The Bacic and Valentich families were intertwined through god-parenting, an important bond in Croatian society. My memories of Mary are primarily of her as a child and young adult: I recall a loving, sweet young person who evolved into a generous, kind and caring partner, parent and friend to many. Regrettably there was little contact over the past number of years, although thanks to Joe and more latterly, to Steve we, my brother Tom and I have been kept informed of some aspects of Mary's life. I especially thank Steve for keeping us up to date about what was recently transpiring in relation to Mary.
I know my brother and I will retain our fond memories of Mary and we share this loss with all of you. She clearly had a wonderful impact on all of us, and undoubtedly others whom she knew over the years. With love, Mary Valentich (Calgary) and Tom Valentich (Toronto).

Deepest sympathy to your family on the passing of Mary . My husband and I met Mary quite a few years ago at Friday the 13th in Port Dover through our mutual friend Sharon. We stayed at Mary’s place with a group of friends, Sharon included.
Mary was so warm and welcoming to us. We felt like we had known her forever. She was an amazing lady who treated us like family. One year (we went for several Friday the 13th bike weekends over the years) Mary found out it was our wedding anniversary. She (and Ron) wined us and dined us and celebrated our anniversary with music (she played the accordion), love and laughter and it was one the most memorable nights we’ve ever enjoyed.
We are fortunate to have had the opportunity to know Mary and the wonderful soul that she was. I’m sure her spirit lives on in your family.

Mary/Courtney is going to be missed by so many. She was a genuine sole, forgiving, fun and the best person to have on your side.
Mary and I have had endless nights full of conversations and memories. She brought me and many others out of our darkest times, never needing or wanting anything in return. That’s just who Mary was.
I have so many fond memories between her and I that I will never forget. after work at the Jamesway we would eat at Denny’s after our shifts, Mary often played a roll of referee with Johnny and I, who’s turn it was to watch general hospital or cartoons. Mary played many rules in my life, nursing me with a cold compress and warm milk while I tried to learn how to drink. I Still have not mastered how to drink nor do I have anyone nursing me.
The best memory will be that she was the sister that I never had. Mary had empathy, kindness, compassion and showed up for so so many of us.
You had a home and a family with being with Mary.
Her heart and soul were bigger than life itself with absolutely no conditions!
Until we meet again my friend, you will always remain a part of me.

I am so saddened to hear of the recent passing of my longtime friend Mary. Although she is no longer with us, I truly believe she will always be in my heart.
i have many fond memories of Mary. She was such a kind ,loving woman who taught me the true meaning of unconditional love. She would not judge others, and accepted people for who they were. I know she helped many, and would want nothing in return. She had a big heart and wonderful spirit about her. Mary had so much compassion of others.
There was also another side of Mary that was so much fun and playful. I have travelled with Mary, and have had some weekend get aways. I called her Courtney, and she called me Donna. She was always my "partner in crime" on Friday the 13th motorcycle events and we had a blast. She would change her costume multiple times, do a dance, maybe sing and play the accordion. You would just never know what you would get. She was a real kid at heart. She was also a fabulous cook and I was always so excited to go to her house for dinner. She was famous for her "meat sticks" that were loved by all who ate them. So many beautiful dinners with Mary and Ron.
I know Mary has helped many people in her former career as a Social Worker. She was loved by many. Mary's long loving relationship with Ron, her two beautiful children Shannon and Johnny, her loving grandchildren and many life time friendships are a true testament of her caring heart and dedication to others. I will deeply miss you my friend.
Meet you on the other side
I love you,
Sharon
