Obituary of J. Ivey IV

IVEY, J. GORDON IVEY, J. Gordon, passed away peacefully at his home in Port Dover on Friday, August 9, 2013 in his 94th year. Gordon Ivey was born in 1920, the youngest son of Ben Ivey and his wife Edith Clark. Gordon is survived by eight nieces and nephews, Ben Lorriman, Martha Lorriman, Ken Ivey, Jamie Ivey, John Baker, Carol Baker Hopper, Ash Ivey and David Ivey. Gord was predeceased by his brothers, Don Ivey and Winn Ivey and his sisters Ruth Ivey Baker and Helen Ivey Lorriman. Gord enlisted in the R.C.A.F. in World War II and served in the Radar Services in northern Scotland. For many years he would return to Britain to reunite with his wartime comrades. After the war, Gord lived and worked in Alberta for a few years, before returning to Port Dover. He purchased the property Shore Acres Park and spent many years developing and improving the trailer park and was always very proud of his property, planting many species of trees native to the Carolinian Forest. Gord was an astute businessman and always took a keen interest in politics and in the community. Gord served several years on the Port Dover Town Council. Most of all, Gord was a family man, and spent many years and many interesting trips to Cornwall, England tracing the Ivey family history. Gord will be missed by his family, and especially by his many friends and customers at Shore Acres Park. Friends are invited to share their memories of Gord at visitation at THOMPSON WATERS FUNERAL HOME, 102 First Ave., Port Dover, on Monday, August 12, 2013 from 5 pm to 8 pm. A Service to Celebrate Gord's life will be held Tuesday, August 13, 2013 at 1 pm at St. Paul's Anglican Church ( Market and St. George Sts.). Father Kendall Reimer officiating. Interment Port Dover Cemetery. Memorial donations to R.C.L. Branch #158 or St. Paul's Anglican Church would be greatly appreciated.
