Our condolences to the family of Fred Knechtel. Few people have represented the spirit and the best interests of Port Dover more than Fred and he did it with good humour and a friendly greeting for all. To us, Fred was Mr. Perch. The perch dinners that he catered at many functions, as well as those served at his restaurants, were amazing and they helped promote his community and the commercial fishing industry. Most of all, he was just a good person and we will miss him. Frank and Nancy Prothero.

Our family is deeply saddened by the passing of Fred. We'll always remember the talks on the bench, sharing elderberry pie and people watching at the beach. Fred was a true character who loved his family, Port Dover and his girl Betty. We are glad we could be a part of his life. He will always be remembered

Wendy, Debbie, Peter, Diane, David and families I was saddened to hear of the passing of your Dad. Only knowing Fred and his family for a short time I soon discovered he loved people and his family. On more than one occasion I would talk with him, at the end of the day, and I could tell he was interested in the days happenings and his life in Dover. The passing of our parents is another benchmark in our lives. Hold onto the good memories. Fred and the Knechtel name are synonymous with hard work.
