it is with great personal sadness and sincere sympathy for all the members of Peggy's family that i draft a short message about the woman i never met but shared many of my thoughts with on email and telephone. i bought two vessels from Peggy through the years and she was always a bright light in business dealings. she was heartbroken after losing Murray and focused more on the business and her family. our inside joke was who would buy the hot dogs when i finally made it back to port dover. on my first trip, she was travelling so i met Murray, who met my mother, whom i'd brought along for the ride for me to view a vessel i later bought. i know Peggy had a heart of gold and perhaps now she is whole again with Murray -- her love for him never wavered. we spoke of her losses and challenges and of my mine, as i too suffer from cancer. she called only a month ago to advise on data i needed to provide for her to best represent the vessel i was selling, she sounded weak, yet simultaneously strong. we spent one new year's eve exchanging emails into the wee hours since neither of us went out to celebrate in the traditional fashion. i can say it was one of my best ... thanks to her. my thoughts and strength are with her family now ... as we both mourn the loss of a courageous and compassionate human being -- my Canadian friend Peggy Scruton.
