I first met Harry B in 1974 when I started my job with the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources in Simcoe. I recall joining a bus trip with the Norfolk Historical Society on a tour led by Harry B to the Sparta area south of St. Thomas. In my 9 years living in the Simcoe area I shared time with Harry B as a member of the executive of the Norfolk Field Naturalists and the Long Point Foundation for Conservation. I also have fond memories of doing Christmas bird counts with Harry in the Port Dover area.
I was also fortunate to have met his children and his lovely first wife Helen. I recall one winter evening being invited in to view the publisher's proofs of a book to be published - my memory lets me down, but most likely it was either 'Lore and Legends of Long Point' or 'William Pope' - copies of which I own and cherish.
Harry was a remarkable man, friendly and welcoming of new visitors to Port Dover/Norfolk/Long Point, and eager to share in his knowledge of history and nature in the Long Point area. It was a pleasure to have made his acquaintance.

You will be missed Harry B. - although we would of liked to keep you forever with us we knew one day you would enter the Heavens and be with those waiting for you and with our Lord. Rest In Peace dear man. What a Treasure you have been during your lifetime to the many of us that love you in friendship; the beauty of your being Harry B. is your memory will continue forever, just as the waves on Lake Erie, through your loving children and their children. Your kind, gentle, patient, loving, sharing nature is a gift to each of us and your life's work will be shared with generations to come in our History. Thank you for the many wonderful talks and your inspiration - your wonderful smile, laughter and friendship will always be remembered each time I see red carnations. I thank God for lending you to us. My Sincere Sympathies to The Barrett Family. Respectfully, Ann
