Andrew, Jake and Kathryn,
I was deeply saddened to hear of Pat's passing. I'm sorry I couldn't make it down to Dover for the visitation or the memorial. My thoughts were with all of you as you celebrated and cherished the life of such a caring, generous, happy, humorous and genuine guy. Pat won't be forgotten any time soon! The boys in the band raised a toast to him Wednesday night.
May his memory live on through the stories, laughter and love he brought to this world.
Take care
Graeme

Dear Yerex Family.
Please accept my deepest condolences for your family's loss.
I knew Pat from visits the the Morrison's cottage on Sparrow Lake.
During a visit to Port Dover the Yerex family welcomed me and a friend into their home.
It was a huge rain storm and we were treated like family when we showed up unannounced.
Pat was a good friend, he made this world a better place.
I will always remember his generosity.
Pat Yerex was the definition of magnanimous.
He will be greatly missed and not forgotten.
Dan Makos.

It has been a very, very long time since I last spent unforgettable moments with Pat, always with Jim Walmsley. We were elementary teachers in Burlington, with fears of being found wanting by the inspectors. Pat felt insecure teaching fractions in math, so Jim offered lessons using concrete materials and other visual resources. Both Jim and I envied Pat's artistic talent and his expertise in basic approaches to visual art. So Pat gave us lessons to address these fundamentals that I used successfully in subsequent classes. Pat's sensitivity and creative genius found its way into his relationship with kids as well as with us. He talked about the young student who had reported to him that he had looked into a mud puddle and discovered a rainbow. Another former student, writing a column in the weekly newspaper in Kapuskasing, revealed an artistic achievement he could recall from being in Mr Yerex's art class. Despite limited artistic talent, he had managed to draw a picture of his favourite goalie which he completed with the appropriate team colours. This became an artistic statement that he would replicate on several subsequent occasions, with different team colours for each rendering. Limitations in a subject is one thing, remembering a notable teacher is quite a different matter. My most unforgettable memory of Pat was an evening with him and Jim Walmsley in Pat's basement, accompanying music on the radio through the night on his gut bucket, while gorging on the most delicious dill pickles ever and tippling on a chilled box of beer. In more recent times, I had given thought to giving Pat a call and arranging a get together. Regrettably, this will remain an unfulfilled desire.
To Pat's family and his closest friends I offer my sincere sympathy for this profound loss.
Respectfully,
wayne weaver

I was saddened to hear that Pat had passed away. I met Pat in the 60's when were both teachers in Burlington. He was a congenial man with a great sense of humour. I got to know him well when we were both chosen to attend an arts conference in New York City in 1965. One of my fondest memories of Pat was his approaching of an unsuspecting New Yorker on the sidewalk and within a block had convinced him that they had met before! Although he was a very intelligent man,a Renaissance man,he really liked meeting people. If you met Pat Yerex you would never forget him.I would like to express my condolences to his family.

Dear Kate, John, Jack And Ben,
We are all so sad and shocked to hear of your Dad/ Granddad's sudden death.
Kate, I will always remember your Dad for his artistry and his help when we made the mural/backdrop for the grade 6 play. Eric remembers how he taught the boys' class how to draw faces in Art class! He was such a loving man to be so involved in your boys' lives.
I'm sure it is difficult to imagine life without him -- I hope you can all find some peace and comfort in knowing Patrick is with his beloved wife -- she will be there waiting at the Pearly Gates with open arms, I'm certain.
We love you all and we are here for you during your grief journey XO
