LUCAS, Thomas
LUCAS, Thomas Stephen, age 59, born in Hamilton January 29, 1950 and died on March 3, 2009 at Hamilton General Hospital. Formerly of Port Dover, Tom became a patient at Norfolk General Hospital in Simcoe for many years as a result of contracting multilple sclerosis (MS). He was a graduate of Waterloo University in engineering and was employed as a junior executive by International Business Machines ( IBM ) prior to becoming incapacitated with MS. Tom will be remembered as an intelligent, caring man who will be missed by his family, friends and all those who knew him. He had a wonderful sense of humour which was evident even throughout the difficult years he coped with MS. Preceded in death by parents Marie and Stephen Lucas, grandparents Mary and Thomas Ostershek and Mary and Nicholas Lucas. Survived by Aunt Adele Hellweg of Minneapolis, Minnesota and cousins Richard Hellweg and Maryann ( Russell ) Larson of Minneapolis; cousin Lillian Lucas of Hamilton; Aunt Mary and Uncle Mike Lucas and cousins Karen and Laura (Terry) Hameliy; Aunt Mary (Frank) Lucas and cousins Ron Lucas (Margaret ), Gerry Lucas, Ken (Christine) Lucas, Christine ( Mark ) Genco; cousins in the United States from the family of Joseph Lucas ; cousins Milan ( Rose Marie ) Herstek and Bernard Herstek. The family wishes to thank William and Therese Walraven, Ed Chechak, Mary Ann and Michael Toth, Don Parker, Pastor John Winslow and the staff at St. Peter's at Chedoke for the kindness they have shown Tom. Tom was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Dollier and Galinee Council # 8149 St. Cecilia's/St. Michael's. Friends are invited to meet with the family for visitation on Saturday, March 7, 2009 from 11 am to 12:30 pm at THOMPSON WATERS FUNERAL HOME LTD., 102 First Ave., Port Dover (519-583-1530), prayers at 11 am at the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 1 pm at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church, Lynn Park Rd., Port Dover. Father Pio Beorchia celebrant. Interment Port Dover Cemetery. A mass will be offered on Saturday, April 25, 2009 at 5:15 pm at St. Eugene's Church in Hamilton. For those wishing memorial donations to the MS Society or Norfolk General Hospital would be greatly appreciated.
