I just came across this article. I , too was a student of "Madame Burbidge" in the 70s. I was lucky enough to be in her homeroom in Grade 13 which gave us extra time to sit and chat before announcements each day which allowed me to get her better personally. She inspired me to become a French teacher which I did and hopefully passed along the passion I had received from her teaching to my students. I am retired 7 years now and still look back fondly on my career and always on my days at PDCS, and in particular Madame's classes.

Mme Burbidge was a highlight in my life, and I'm grateful for all the blessings she gave. She certainly made the teaching profession honourable, and so attractive that I wanted to pursue it. Alas, life took me in a different direction. I pray I was able to be, in some small measure, the kind of role model she was to me.

I am very sorry to hear of Madame Burbridges passing.
Elle a etait une inspiration pour toutes les etudiants qu'elle a eu la chance d'educer!. Very sorry Madame...I was always terrible with "mes accordes" and my silly computer has an English keyboard.
Madame, you will be missed by your family and friends but you will live on with each student who had the privilege to sit in your class. I will never try to minimize the impact you had on your family and friends, but you had a very profound impact on your students. Your legacy will stretch for generations.
And now to clear the air......I know who was responsible for the disappearance of Georges "la grenouille" in 1979 along with Monsieur Ours and a couple of their friends from you classroom. We all made sure that they made it home safely even though Georges travelled all the way to South Carolina and "allegedly" caused some damage in a hotel room there. To the others who know what happened, we will continue to share the story.
You had a huge influence on me and I thank-you but....I would also like to thank your family for sharing you with the rest of us. Your dedication was second to none and took you away from your family. I am certain they supported you but we took as much from you as we could. We couldn't help it...we were teenagers.
Thank-you again so very much. My prayers are with you, your family and your friends....and I will continue to share wonderful memories about you for the rest of my days.
Godspeed!!!!!!

Every conversation with cousin Kay included laughter. Laughter at ourselves, laughter at our situations, and sometimes laughter at nothing. Her visits to our place in Florida were a party. Her curiosity about the world made it fun to visit places we had been many times. Her witty writing meant that when her Christmas letter arrived we dropped everything and gathered to read it first. We will always remember her warmth, intelligence, and nobility. Doug and Paula

Mrs Burbidge taught me French at PDCS in the 60's and I remember with great fondness her efforts to drum the "francais" into our heads. The memories come flooding back after 50+ years. My sincere condolences to the family. Both of your parents were wonderful kind souls and we were so fortunate to have had them in our lives.

Deepest sympathy to Mary, Ian, Doug and families. I shall always treasure my memories of the 5 years we spent as roommates at U of T, and of the following years we spent watching our children grow, especially at frequent visits to our cottages.. May you all be as fortunate in your friendships as we were.

Kay was a great bridge player! You could count on her making her contract if you were her partner and she was delighted to put down the opposition!
The students at PDCS benefitted so very much from those Spring shows. Chris, my son did for sure. It rounded out everyone’s high school experience to include more than academics!
God bless her!

Dear Ian and Family,
Very sorry to hear about the passing of your mother. She was the same age as my mom is. Strokes and Alzheimers disease are so difficult for the dearly-loved person and their family to deal with. You have my sincere sympathy.
