My heart goes out to Jenn and her family as they celebrate the incredible life her dad had. I'm so glad I got to meet Bill and had many opportunities to get to know him a bit through stories Jenn would tell me of him. There was always laughter when she spoke of him.

Like many others I was fortunate to work with Bill. In 1976 at Peterborough Main Branch he helped a young trainee transition from college to the business world. Bill had a unique gift of adding humor and fun at the appropriate time. We were able to assist each other again in 1983 when Bill was in Belleville and I worked at Trenton branch.
My condolences to Cathy and John and their families.
Rest in peace "white shoes".

dear Cathy, Jenn and Brian: So sorry to hear about Bill’s passing. He was the highlight during the Lions Meetings, always ready with a joke, or some smartass remark. He was in charge of the finances at the annual fish fry, with his buddy Jim McIntyre helping out, and those two fed on each other what jokes was concerned. Bill was very much a Lion, the Lions slogan is “ we serve”, and Bill did. Help where ever he could Such as: helping the lion’s out planting trees at Silverlake Park, where he was pounding in trees takes to keep the trees upright. Bill and another burly handled the stake pounder, and if we did not stop then in time, all you could see of the stake was a nubbin sticking up of the ground.
Bill being nominated and winning the Citizen of the Year must have been the highlight of Life (or was it the day he lost his freedom by marrying Cathy).
We was a great citizen, and will be sorely missed.

I still remember Bill at his desk at Peterborough Main Branch when I first met him there in 1975. He had the plaid blazer and those white shoes. We hit it off and him and me coached the Scotiabank women's softball team the summer of 1975. This required recovery time in the local beer place at least twice a week, some tough days the next morning at work and a tiring drive to Ottawa for Bill to see Cathy (his girlfriend at the time) and to Almonte for me to visit my Mother. I am one to assign nicknames to people I really like. Bill was assigned the nickname "BILLY WHITESHOES" and it stuck from that point on. His nickname and that of Biff Stu are my two favourites of all time.
Bottom line, Whiteshoes was a great guy, a funny man, a practical joker and just a downright decent human being. We will all miss him.
Rest in peace Whiteshoes.

Wow the laughs I had with Bill. What a great guy we met at Scotiabank Belleville and Bill made going to work a joy just to see what would happen that day. Always something going on with Bill around. A fond memory is of our families traveling together to Florida for a holiday. Cathy I am sure you remember the white Cadillacs. Mark McNamara and family.

Bill was a good man. He loved his family and community and was always quick to support worthy causes. I enjoyed my time with him at Scotiabank and could always count on a great story from him. He had a great sense of humor and took my practical jokes in stride... there were many. I learned a great deal about him when I MC'd his citizen of the year award. My deepest sympathy goes to Cathy and his family... Bill will be missed.

I was extremely lucky to grow up next to the Duffus family. I always knew I was in for a good laugh when I crossed paths with Bill. Whether next door, at the store or one of the many many functions he volunteered for. I know that Bill will forever and always put a smile on my face!
