My wife, Rae and I were thinking of some past memories and Stan and Ione's name came up. I checked the Maple Leaf internet site to see if we could make some contact with the family and was shocked to see Stan's obit. I am a relative of Ione and met them both at a Howey family reunion, many years ago. This was arranged by Mary Howey from Brantford. Occasionally we visit Port Dover and whenever we did, I made a point to stop in the newspaper office to visit with Stan. He always greeted us as old friends, although we had only met the one time, at the reunion. He was very friendly and made us feel welcome. I am sorry we did not take an opportunity to visit more often.

I had many opportunities for conversations with Stan during the years I worked for the Maple Leaf. His gentle smile and the crinkle-twinkle eyes are what I remember best. He took pleasure in everyday happenings and people and helped others to see the same things because it was his nature to always listen well and to put others first. He will be sadly missed in our community. My sincere condolences Ione, Paul, Jamie and family

We first met Stan when we joined the congregation of Knox Presbyterian Church some 12 years ago. It did not take long to realize that he was a kind and gentle man with a keen sense of humour that endeared him to all who were fortunate enough to know him. We became good friends over the years. Our deepest sympathies go out to Ione and the Morris family and we share in your sorrow at this time. He will be greatly and sadly missed.

In honour of his love for our community I have made a donation to PD foundation. Stan was one of my Dover favourites. Local media creates space to share our stories and collectively gather our histories. Thank you to Stan for nurturing and building such a beautiful community space in the Port Dover Maple Leaf. According to Stan we all had a story to tell that his paper gave space to hear. We will miss you. ❤️

What a great picture you chose of Stan. His great personality shines through. Many memories of my years with the Maple Leaf family come flooding back to me. He was an excellent boss with a great sense of humor. He always had a really big smile when we would bring dessert treats in for everyone to try.
Through the years he spent many hours behind the scenes helping and encouraging those needing assistance and or information with numerous town events . His family and Port Dover's future were always of prime importance.
We has lost another strong supporter of our community.
Ione, Paul, Michele, Ian and Family, our thoughts and prayers are with you at this very sad time.
Stan you will be missed.

Paul, Jamie, Ione, and all of Stan's family, including those at the Port Dover Maple leaf; I feel as though I've been one of those "lucky ones" who has had the opportunity to know and work for Stan Morris. I loved his love and loyalty to family and to our community. Stan created Christmasfest, yet would never admit to it. Why,? because Stan was a very humble man. And this was while in his 70's! I looked at this amazing man at that time, and wondered, wow what else has happened in Port Dover thanks to Stan? He had an amazing knowledge of the history of Port Dover. I remember the excitement in his eyes and voice whenever he spoke of any of Port Dover's history. Most likely Stan is one of a very few, who has had the knowledge of the most distant history here on the shores of Lake Erie.
As an employer, Stan demanded the best from his employees, but not without giving back the best of himself. My dad past away when I was 17 yrs old. No one other then Stan Morris, came close to a father figure for me. He cared about me, not just as an employee, but as a person. There were many topics of conversations we've had where he had given his honest advice; harsh or compassionate, he was right many times. Stan & Paul understood that family comes first. I've watched Stan help many of his employees thru many joyous and not so joyous times that life offers. He would often make comforting comments, and shared thoughts of care and love for others in and for our community. Stan had that special ability to show others a way that may work better, but then allow everyone to proceed as they wish, with no judgement. I am happy that Stan lived a life only a few of us are able to live. I am happy that I was fortunate enough to have learned from Stan Morris .Yet I am still sad knowing he has left our earth, even tho I know he has gone onto a better place. Thank you Stan for all you've given me in my life. xoxo
Deepest sympathy to all of Stan's family. He will be missed. Hugs... Christine Zammit-Agnew
