Obituary of Marjorie Porter

PORTER, Ida Marjorie (nee Field) of Port Dover, passed away peacefully at Norview Lodge surrounded by her loving family on July 13, 2022 in her 93nd year. Predeceased by Douglas, her beloved husband and best friend of 64 years. Cherished mother and mother-in-law of Carol, Rick, Cathy (Don Maxwell), Diane and Laura. Proud and loving grandmother of Brennan (Heather), Nathan (Katie) and Josh (Melanie) Maxwell, Tasha (Phil Dragstra), Nick, Stacey and Stephanie (Brennan Kovacevich) Porter. Great-grandmother of Robbie, Caleb, Liam, Ezra, Delia and Sophie. Marjorie will be sadly missed by her sister-in-law Evelyn and her many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her sons David (1972) and Delos (2017), parents Blake and Evelyn (Meade), brother Jack, brother-in-law Neil and his wife (Hazel) and daughter-in-law Ann. 
Throughout her life, Marjorie was strongly committed to family and community. As a member of the Marburg Women's Institute for 69 years, she served many roles including Branch President and Provincial Board Director. Marjorie helped lead 14 4-H Clubs for which she received a Leadership Award in 1973. Grounded in her faith, Marjorie was a member of the First Baptist Church, Simcoe, for 67 years where she contributed to the church as Sunday School Teacher, Choir and Mission Circle member. Marjorie served with the Homecraft Department of the Norfolk County Fair for 33 years including many years as a Director. She was awarded an Honorary Life Director with the Fair when her involvement ended in 1999. In 2009, the Norfolk Women's Institute and the Federated Women's Institute of Ontario awarded Marjorie with the Woman of Excellence Fair Award for her many contributions and service to the Norfolk County Fair. Marjorie volunteered for the Haldimand-Norfolk Lung Association and in 1996 received a 25 year Honourary Certificate. In 2011, she received a Circle of Excellence Award from the Ontario Long Term Care Association recognizing her contribution to Dover Cliffs where she organized craft sessions for the residents and assisted with the weekly church service. Marjorie enjoyed knitting, quilting, playing the piano and her fish pond. Family and friends are invited to remember Marjorie at Thompson Waters Funeral Home, 102 First Ave., Port Dover 519-583-1530 on Thursday, July 21, 2022 from 7 pm to 9 pm. A Funeral Service to celebrate Marjorie's life will be held in the funeral home Chapel on July 22, 2022 at 1pm. The Reverend Darrell Maguire officiating. Interment Port Dover Cemetery and refreshments at the Marburg Community Hall will follow the service. The family encourages everyone in attendance to please wear a mask. For those wishing donations to the Marburg Community Hall or the First Baptist Church, Simcoe will be gratefully acknowledged by the family.
