Obituary of Michael Lloyd Vardy
Vardy, Michael Lloyd. On Wednesday, February 15, 2023, Mike Vardy passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family. He is survived by his wife and his best friend of 24 years, Ellen (née Green); his daughters Angela, Kelly (Ray), and Adia; his stepchildren Nicole (Ryan), CJ (Sarah), and Brittany (Dan); and his grandchildren Noah, Reese, Madison, Jaxon, Sebastian, Sawyer, Gabe, Josh, Fiona, Imoen, and Odin, as well as a large family of siblings, nieces, and nephews. He was predeceased by his dog, Izzy; parents Veryle and Howard Vardy; and siblings Jimmy Vermette and Donna White (née Vardy). Mike was born in Sturgeon Falls, Ontario on June 26, 1953, and grew up in Capreol, Ontario. He was a proud provider for his family, beginning his career in nickel mines and the railways in Northern Ontario before relocating to Port Dover, where he worked as an Industrial Millwright for 30 years at Stelco. Mike spent the last ten years of his career with the Millwrights Local 1007 Union; his favoured job sites during that last decade included the Sir Adam Beck Hydroelectric Generating Station, Welland Canal, and Toronto’s Pearson International Airport. For the past two and a half decades, Mike shared his life with Ellen and together they raised their youngest daughter, Adia. Mike and Ellen spent many cherished days exploring the woods, roads, and waterways of Ontario with their dogs. Throughout his life, Mike nurtured an avid interest in trains and geology and spent many hours tinkering in his workshop or walking on the beach collecting beach glass. As all who loved him know, Mike was always ready to share his expertise and offer advice or help with mechanical or household repairs. The family will be holding a private event in Mike’s honour.
