Obituary of Douglas Brockbank

BROCKBANK, Douglas Lawrence (born January 19, 1936), unexpectedly passed away on September 5, 2023, at the age of 87. Beloved husband and best friend of Ella Marie (nee Campbell) for 37 years. Loving father of Christopher and his wife Brenda of Mississauga, Scott (Nancy Norton) of Port Dover, loving “Pops” to John Parent of Pickering, and father-in-law to Joeanne Parent of Barrie. Very proud grandfather of Michael Parent, Adam, Hunter & Hayden Brockbank, and Jenna & Sadie Parent. Also Mr. “G” to Iyla & Ellsa Tyndall-Norton. Dear brother and best friend of Priscilla Barker and her husband Murray of Paris, Ontario. Much loved by his sisters and brothers-in-law, Diane and Ed Campbell of London ON and Betty MacMullin of Beaver Cove, Cape Breton. Doug will be missed by his many nieces and nephews, many friends and extended family. Predeceased by his parents, Lawrence & Ruby Brockbank, stepson Mark Parent, and grandson Nathan Parent. Doug was very proud of his 43 years with the TD Bank where he rose from Junior Clerk to Sr. Vice President. He was a very active 60+ year member and twice Master of St. John’s Masonic Lodge No. 82 in Paris, a member of the Scottish Rite in Sault Ste. Marie and Mocca Shriners Temple in London Ontario. Doug was a “Queen’s Scout” with many years in a leadership role in Winnipeg and Mississauga. He was also a charter member of the Port Dover Probus Club. He and Ella also volunteered at the Port Dover Food Bank and with the Norfolk Meals on Wheels program. He loved music of all kinds having played in the Paris Legion Bugle Band, Paris Town Band, and the Brantford Shrine Club Oriental Band. After retirement Doug took up golf which he played, not as well as he would like, but as often as possible. His and Ella’s other passion was cruising and since retirement they have covered the world many times with their long-time travelling partners Murray & Priscilla Barker. Since coming to Port Dover he and Ella have been active members of St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church. A Catholic Mass will be held at St. Cecilia’s Church on Friday September 22, 2023 at 1:00p.m.  In lieu of flowers, donations should be directed to St. Cecilia’s, the Port Dover Food Bank, or a charity of your choice.
