CROSSLAND, Sylvia May May6,1927-December 31,2023
Sylvia Crossland passed away on New Year's Eve 2023 at Norfolk General Hospital. She is survived by her niece Peta(Phillip)Jones of Lancashire UK and her nieces Margaret Snowball and Angela Gate of Australia. She will also be missed by her friends Troy Durham, Linda Barath and Geri Blackett of Port Dover and Ross and Val Bishop of London On.  Sylvia came to Canada by herself by steam ship, landing in Toronto July1st 1955.She came because she was interested in pursuing a career in the arts and there were limited opportunities for that in post-war Britain. Sylvia was able to find a job in an advertising company where she met a thriving artistic community. Sylvia also worked at The Ontario Science Centre when it first opened. In her final years, Sylvia settled in Port Dover where she worked at the Port Dover Harbour Museum when it first began. Sylvia was a great cat lover. She spent a lot of effort and her own money caring for the local feral cat population and fostering many stray cats that came her way.
