Obituary of Gordon Cooper

COOPER, Gordon Elroy of Port Dover February 7, 1949 - March 3, 2024 in his 76th year is "TEN - Four OVER and OUT".  Gord received his call and his work is done here.  Gone to cruise the heavens in a bright red Western Star, ending each day eternally with his ever-present coolie cup in hand with the coldest beer enjoyed at the shop picnic table. Forever in the heart of his best friend and partner Katrina Ferguson.  Loving father of David (Heather) Cooper and Tamie Cooper (Chuck).  Cherished grandfather to Aiden and Larissa Cooper, Adeillia Teclu.  Dearly missed by Calum, Claire, Kirsten and Abbey Ferguson.  Predeceased by his father and mother Elroy and Adeline (Watts) Cooper and brother Lloyd. Loved and cherished by his siblings Marion (Jim) Shaw, Audrey (the late Ron) Burt, the late Lloyd (Kathy) Cooper, Gladys (Steve) Colwell and Ron Cooper.  The family gathered together always with such enjoyment. Gord's life began in Kincardine, Ontario always keeping his parents on their toes.  Farmer to truck driver, this gentle, honourable, humble man lived two lives.  One as an employer and business owner of Gord Cooper Trucking Inc. in Hamilton.  Growing his dump truck business with stories that could write a book.  Gord was ever approachable when help was needed and he truly was hands on at every aspect of his business.  His number one employee, Rene Desjardins, worked by his side and they became the very best of friends.  Secondly as a lover of Polka Sundays, old time country music, Hallmark Christmas movies and companion of Cheeks the cat.  Both of them fairly deaf and mostly blind but hanging out on the deck overlooking the lake.  The Man Cave always open for business or pleasure. Gord and Katrina met and as ever the odd couple made a magical life together.  Gord came to Port Dover and his jovial demeanour and love of a party grew his great friends here.  Not taking any fashion advise but always the silent ladies man.  Gord loved to follow Katrina to the arena to be with the Synchro ladies even playing the music for our practices.  But, above all he really loved his Port Dover Sailors Hockey Team.  The Blue Line Club Sundays were his chapel.  A man with no desire to exert himself in sports but a great fan including the Hamilton Tiger Cats. He quietly admired the zodiac life of his mate Eyes and decided the inflatable life could be for him.  He spent many days cruising the creek or the open water.  There was another underlying reason…he was going to get to Pottahawk and the Long Point Lighthouse, both achieved! Let's gather to share more stories and embrace each other, laugh, cry and make new memories all in the name of Gord.  Gord wants you to know that if you owe him a beer you can find him in heaven and without hesitation ask if you can join him for "Just One More!" There will be two Celebrations of Life!  Gord would expect nothing less!
