Obituary of SHIRLEY SALERNE

SALERNE, SHIRLEY ANNE SALERNE, Shirley Anne (nee Gaston), of Port Dover, Ontario, born in Mill Bank, New Brunswick. It is with great sadness that the family of Shirley (Gaston) Salerne announces her passing after a courageous battle with cancer on Monday, November 1, 2010 in her 76th year. Wife of the late Albert Salerne who predeceased her in 1979. Mother of Terry Wilkinson (Ray), Ruth Stewart (Gary), all of Port Dover, Wayne Salerne (Heather) of Wiarton, Diane Kannawin (Bill) of Port Dover, Chris Johnston (Rob) of Markham, Cindy Greenslade (Dick) and Jo-Anne Sullivan all of Port Dover. Grandmother of nineteen grandchildren, Ray, Owen, Stacey, Neil, Richelle, Chantel, Justin, Shasta (Lorne), Trevor (Sara), Bill, Alexandria, Amber, Shannon, Mathew, Misty (Jeremiah), Richard (Kim), Sonya, Nathan and Terra. Great-grandmother of seven. Shirley is also survived by her brothers Wayne Gaston (Patsy) of London, Greg Gaston (Joanne) and sister Marion Stroud all of Port Dover. Sister-in-law of Kathy Gaston of Port Dover, Patricia Gaston of Simcoe, Augustine Morris of Brantford, Fern Chambers of Simcoe, Jean Michalicka (Rudy) of St. Catharines and brothers-in-law, Bob Yearwood of Simcoe and Vincent Salerne (Ruth) of Hagersville. Shirley was predeceased by her parents Clara (Glidden) in 1980, Leslie Gaston in 1990, her brothers Marshall (1995), David (1995), John (2005), sister Patricia Yearwood (2004), and brothers-in-law Gary Stroud (1989) and Ray Morris (2004). Shirley was owner/operator of Salerne's Grocery Store until it closed in 1976. Prior to her retiremnet in 1998 she worked in the cafeteria at P.D.C.S. and in the gift shop at St. Cecilia's. Family and friends are invited to share their memories of Shirley at THOMPSON WATERS FUNERAL HOME LTD, 102 First Ave., Port Dover (519) 583-1530 on Thursday, November 4, 2010 from 2 pm to 4 pm & 7 pm to 9 pm. Parish prayers at 7 pm, followed by CWL prayers. A Mass of Christian Burial to celebrate Shirley's life will be held Friday, November 5, 2010 at 11 am at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church, (Lynn Park Road) Port Dover. Father Stephen Savel celebrant.
