The day had arrived. It was time to pack our cars with all the essentials of driving, essentials being essentially everything we didn't need! Gameboy? Check! Books? Check! Lighthouse for Grandma? Check, check and check! After the grueling drive that would magically get shorter the older we would get, we were finally there. We gathered ourselves up and went in the door. That is when we got to see you. When we walked in the door, up the steps, and into the loving embrace of your arms, with a smile on your lips and in your eyes and a thingamabobs to be had. We sat down on the couch or the chair or the floor, depending on how many adults were there to kick us out of the prime spots and watched the Nascars while you told us all about the latest doofunny on the news. We then proceeded downstairs to play with the toy barn or to play hide and go seek for what felt like hours upon hours while the adults were cooking. After that, it was time to play outside. We bundled up against the cold and crossed the street to the park on the corner where we threw snowballs at each other and ran up and down the ice slick playground. With an older person to supervise us, we ventured into the woods of wonder behind the park. Trees had fallen over the river, offering endless paths for us to choose from as we trecked through the forest of mystery towards the end goal of having explored a vast and untamed land (or rather the small patch of woods that rand behind the neighboors' houses!). By the time we got back, it was dinner time. Turkey! Yorkshire Pudding covered in syrup! Vegetables! Stuffing! Christmas-crackers with the paper hats! We would grab our food and head on over to the kids table, the table that Paul never failed to be seated at, much to his shagrin in later years. We traded cracker toys, ate delicious food and poked fun at each other. Shortly afterwards it was time to say goodbye. We said our farewells, and gave our hugs, knowing we would all see each other again and treasuring the memories that we had made. After the long drive home we settled into bed, happy to have been with family for this very special time. After all... it was Christmas time. It was not the only time in the year that we had seen you, but it always seemed to be the most magical. Everyone was full of the holiday cheer, laughing and playing, talking and rejoicing.
We were all together. Because of you. Because of your all-encompassing love for us and our overwhelming love for you. Rare was the time when paltry things such as weather conditions kept us apart for this magical day. Our desire to see you was stronger than nature itself. We got to see you one last time before you left us, but there never will be a Christmas without you, for the memories of you and all that you meant to us will forever be there, joining us for the festivities forever more.

Christmas is a time for family, it was a time when we got to see you. Every year we would gather in Port Dover to visit with the ones we cherished. To visit with you, grandma. I am glad that we got one last Christmas together, you will be remembered throughout them all.
