Obituary of JUNE TOYE

TOYE, June Beverly (nee Farmer) of Port Dover passed away succumbing to complications arising from her long time battle with leukemia with her family by her side on Sunday February 8, 2015 at Norfolk General Hospital in her 89th year. Dear mother of Sandra (Garry) Sleeman of Melbourne Australia, Terry (Jo-Anne) of Cochrane, Alberta, Beverley of Beaverton, and Wendy (Steve) Lamb of Port Dover. Loving grandmother of 9 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Predeceased by her husband Stan Toye, parents Sam and Gladys Farmer, sister Colleen Clark, brother Calvin, son-in-law Bob Ritchie and granddaughter Petrina Sleeman. June was born on June 4, 1926 and was raised on the family farm east of Charlton. She later attended Charlton Consolidated School and Englehart High School. In June of 1944 she married Stan Toye at St. Paul's United Church in Charlton, ON. They moved to the small community of Island Falls for 5 years, where she ran the post office with her husband. After moving to North Bay, in the late 50's and early 60's she taught sewing and millinery classes at night school. Upon moving to Richmond Hill she completed night school for her RNA. June worked at the York Central Hospital in Richmond Hill, Misericordia Hospital in Haileybury and in Englehart as well. They returned to Charlton in the mid 60's and built their new home, over the next 30years she served on the Charlton town Council and was deeply involved with the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #227, and the Women's Auxiliary where she served terms as President of both divisions. She was also involved with the Women's Institute. June loved to travel and enjoyed trips to Great Britain, Europe, Australia and the United States. In keeping with her wishes cremation has taken place with inurnment in the family plot in Charlton at a later date. A lady of Grace and Beauty has left this world, the like of which can never be replaced in our hearts.
