Obituary of Evelyn Irene Hobbs

HOBBS, Evelyn Irene Hobbs (née Dawson), 76, of Port Dover, ON, formerly of Hamilton, ON, died peacefully in her sleep on September 3, 2018 in Norfolk General Hospital after a long struggle with Parkinson's disease. Born on June 12, 1942 in Hamilton, she is predeceased by her parents, Reta and Alfred Dawson.  Survivors include husband Alan Hobbs of Port Dover; daughters Lorin MacDonald of Toronto and Kimberley Hobbs of Oshawa; brother Murray (the late Marjorie) Dawson of Hamilton; sister-in-law Mary Hobbs of Paris, ON; brother-in-law Ian (Sandy) Hobbs of Mountain, ON; as well as grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and numerous relatives. Since 1975, Ev lived in Norfolk County with her husband, Alan (Al), spending the last 28 years in Port Dover. She will be fondly remembered by family and friends as a woman who enthusiastically enjoyed life and mastered all she tried, be it a beautiful wildflower garden, achieving her third-degree black belt in karate, puppy and dog training, and so much more. Her interests were varied, demonstrating a keen desire for lifelong learning - golfing, drawing, calligraphy, and playing the guitar, to mention just a few. Ev loved all animals and shared her home with many over the years. She displayed a sharp wit and was always quick to smile and laugh. There was nothing more infectious than her bent-over-double silent laugh!  All of these things were exhibited during visits this summer with her cousins Donna Fisher and Barbara McKeown as they recalled the fun-filled Murray Family picnics of their childhood. The family thanks Dr. Alison Malo and Dr. John D. Hall of Port Dover and all of those who cared for Ev with compassion during her last days at Norfolk General Hospital. Cremation has taken place. All are welcome to a celebration of life memorial service on Saturday, September 22, 2018 at 11 a.m. at Grace United Church, 18 Chapman Street West in Port Dover, with a reception to follow. The Reverend Kathryn Vance officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to make a donation to the charity of your choice. Arrangements have been entrusted to THOMPSON WATERS FUNERAL HOME, Port Dover 519-583-1530.Online condolences to www.thompsonwatersfuneralhome.ca
