Sorry to hear about John passing away. I remember when I was younger and Mr Varey and I would exchange birthday cards as we shared the same birthday. We always chuckled over that!!
I have very fond memories of both John and Betty growing up. St Williams and Booths Harbour was a great place to grow up as a child because of people like John. Thinking of you Cindy, Norm and families.

Uncle John left us with so many memories...It was always so special to look forward to another wonderful day of Christmas celebration every Boxing Day when the two Varey families would get together. I remember so many special things he did for us over the years. When I was little and visited the store in St. Williams, he would fill a bag of candy just for me so he could watch my eyes fill with excitement. He and Aunt Betty would come and pick up all five of us kids when we were young and take us on excursions. Even our family dog, Candy, would start whining miles before we reached Uncle John's house, because she knew who she was going to see. John did so many special things for so many people. He has always been one of the kindest people I ever knew. We miss you, Uncle John, and will always treasure our memories of you. love Anne, Kevin, Alyssa and Matt

Please accept our sincerest condolences on the passing of your kind, wonderful & generous dad, John. I know all of the cherished memories that everyone has of Uncle John will keep his spirit alive in our hearts forever. He was always there to lend a hand or offer advice to anyone who needed it. Just hearing his voice & seeing his smile was amazing and infectious. We loved our trips down to Port Dover to visit and have lunch with him and he always made them special. He will be sadly missed but still loved by everyone who knew him.
Love Kim & Chuck

My earliest memory of Uncle John is when I worked as cashier at his St.Williams store where his nephew Steve also worked and, in fact, introduced me to his brother, Mike, whom I ended up marrying and have been a member of the "Varey" clan for 45 years now. Uncle John was one you could call upon no matter what you required help with even if you only needed an answer to a question. I can say that my husband, Mike an myself, called on him a few times and he would arrive like streak of lightening and never leave your side until the issue was solved. In other words "there was no other like him". We love you Uncle John, as many others do as well, and we will miss you especially your laugh.

Dear Cindy, Norm and families:
I am so very sorry for your loss. It was truly my pleasure to meet John. We had many great conversations over the years. Such a pleasant man with an obvious love and deep sense of pride of his children and grandchildren. I enjoyed hearing about his careers over the years. I will most certainly miss his laughter and kindness shown to me

An incredible Uncle, mentor and friend...someone I looked up to my entire life. He was just an amazingly creative individual who could master anything he took on. I remember his big cars early on, and being allowed to tag along once in a while when he was dating my Aunt Betty...I remember the first home he built for he and Betty, and being so fascinated as a young kid that he had also made the furniture. I recall the bathhouse in Port Dover that he helped run with his parents, the City Service gas station that he also helped them with, and of course the years in St. Williams where he and Betty ran the Clover Farm Market. One anecdote from those days was when he started making his own sausages, and people were asking what kind they were...knowing the demographics of the area, he started calling them Hungarian sausages...after that he couldn't make them fast enough...and they were delicious. So many wonderful memories of just a wonderful person, one who spent a lifetime serving and caring for others. Sincere condolences to Cindy, Norm, their families and his many friends. RIP Uncle John...you will be missed by so many.
